Managing Forums

A Forum is a main category on your user forum, which in turn contains sub-topics. Only administrators can create forums, and not normal users. Normal users can however add topics under the forums.

  • To manage the forums login to your WordPress backend and go to “Forums”
  • Click on a forum to edit, or click “New Forum” at the top of the page to add a new Forum.
  • In the content block, the content for the forum can be added, which is usually information about the type of topics that are intended for the forum
  • In the sidebar, the type should always be set to “Forum”. Status should be set to “Open” if you wish the forum to appear on your website. Visibility should also be set to “Public” for the forum to appear.
  • The “Parent” for a forum we recommend to be set to “- No Parent” we use the “Topics” as the sub-categories for a forum.
  • Click “Update” or Publish” when you are ready to post your forum live.

Managing Topics

A topic is a sub-category under a forum, administrator and registered users can create topics.

  • To manage the topics login to your WordPress backend and go to “Topics”
  • Click on a topic to edit, or click “New Topic” at the top of the page to add a new Topic.
  • In the content block, the content for the Topic can be added, which is usually information about the type of topics that are intended for the Topic
  • In the sidebar, the type can be set to “Normal” or “Sticky” which places the topic at the top of the forum.
  • The “Parent” for a topic is where the location of the topic in a particular forum can be set.
  • Topic “Tags” can be used to relate a topic to particular terms.
  • Click “Update” or Publish” when you are ready to post your forum live.

Managing Replies

A reply is a reply to a topic from a user. These can be managed in the backend.

  • To manage the topics login to your WordPress backend and go to “Replies”
  • Click on a reply to edit, or click “New Reply” at the top of the page.
  • Replies can then be updated or published.

Forum Settings

The general settings for a forum can be updated under Settings > Forums. Here the user access settings can be updated, and well as the forum functionality. Please be careful here as these settings can change how the forum displays on your website!
